Magnets and a Ruler

Today Lilly, Tmike, and I learned and worked with marbles and magnets. It was interesting to see how strong magnets can really be! We wasted a lot of time trying to get the magnets apart, and then they would get back together and it kept happening. Anyways, we made a magnetic rifle. The base was a ruler, it layed flat on the table and the we taped a square REALLY strong magnet every 3 inches on the ruler. Inbetween each magnet, we put 2 marbles. Then, we would launch a marble towards the first magnet and it would cause a chain, then the last marble would launch and roll far away. This was the coolest lab so far!

Sound Measurments Lab

Today Emily and I focused on magnetic energy. We used the computer to track how much energy there is in a nail and battery. It was confusing because I didn't really understand the instructions, so we kept asking questions and then we ran out of time. If we had to do this again, I think it would be better if we had more time.

Impact Craters

Yesterday in Class, Lena, Lehayhay and I expierimented. We had a tray on flour. The flour was approximatly 1 inch deep. At first we dropped a ping pong ball about 10 inches above the flour. Then we continued doing this with different mesasurments. We noticed a trend: The higher you drop the ping pong ball from, the bigger impact. This related to when we learned about GPE and KE.
